Intro

Hello! I am so glad you are here. My name is Julie. I am 49 yr old and have been a nurse for 21 years. The last 10 years of my nursing career was in hospice. I had been considering getting my Master’s degree for most of my nursing career, although I thought it would be as a family nurse practitioner (you know, small town doc, Doc Hollywood). But circumstances changed and I decided psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner would be a better fit. So, then began the search for a school. I obtained my BSN from Linfield College of Nursing in Portland Oregon, I had started my FNP degree at Purdue University Global. Unfortunately, their PMHNP program is not authorized in my state so there you go.

I have spent many hours searching for an online program. One that is authorized in my state, one that isn’t exorbitantly expensive, didn’t require too many on site visits, and….would accept my transfer credits. This was a tough one, but there is no way I was going to repeat Advanced Pathyphysiology or Pharmacology! Another requirement was rolling admission dates. I don’t want to have to wait 6 months to a year for an admission decision and an eventual start date.

I narrowed it down to Frontier Nursing University and Walden University. I applied to both. Frontier accepted me into a wait list ( possibly because I have no psych RN experience). Walden accepted me (I know, they accept most), AND they accepted 4 to 5 of my courses including patho and pharm! This was huge! I must say the process so far has been great! I had fantastic experience with my enrollment specialist Molly. She was knowledgeable and friendly and called every week or so to check in, give updates etc. I have now reached the hand off to the person who will guide me through the registration and financial aid process. So, that is just a little bit about where I am.

In addition to school I spend my time on my farm, tending to my goats, chickens, guinea fowl, rabbits, dogs and cats. I am also a wife, mother to 4 and grandmother to 3. well, that’s it for today. Thanks for stopping by.
